Gab Leading the Charge for Alternative Health Solutions

Imagine yourself treading water as you bob up and down on a stormy sea.

Out of nowhere a boat appears.  But instead of flagging them down, you decide to wait for the next one.

There’s only one problem.  The “next one” doesn’t exist.

Such is the condition of traditional healthcare, the only difference being there’s still hope for rescue.

Alternative health solutions is this ship in the night and I’ll explain why it’s worth boarding!

An Unlikely Ally

Before I do, allow me to introduce the “first mate” of the vessel.  I’ve previously talked about Gab, an absolute giant in the social media space.

Their 5 ½ year journey has seen them banned from:

  • Banks
  • Hosting providers
  • App stores
  • Email services

But it hasn’t stopped 90 million people from visiting the platform in the past 30 days alone!  They’ve accomplished this by being the only tech company in the world to build solutions to all these problems.  From scratch.

What do they have to do with healthcare?  I’m glad you asked, even if you didn’t.

Health + Tech

Big Tech won’t allow holistic practitioners to advertise products brought to market without extremely expensive clinical trials.  Unsurprisingly they went somewhere they could.  Hence part of Gab’s connection to the field of medicine.

There’s an even more exciting association upcoming.  They will be starting their own venture capital firm!

“It’s not just about us investing money into people and businesses, it’s about us investing our time and the tremendous reach of the Gab ecosystem to tens of millions of people,”  states founder Andrew Torba.

One main area they specifically want to advance is decentralized Christian healthcare options.  Before you bemoan this fact, understand all religions or lack thereof are members of their online community.

But their founder is a born-again Christian and like most owners he can invest where he feels led.

Next I’ll share why my personal experience with Gab has me hopeful.

Why Healthcare Entrepreneurs Should Be Paying Attention

Outside of the platform’s base, many are unaware of Gab’s unique characteristic.  It’s not funded by Wall Street, billionaires, or venture capitalists.

So how is it able to compete effectively?

Capital comes from:

  1. Paid account upgrades
  2. Merchandise sales
  3. Ad revenue
  4. Donations

Making it clear they want to give back and reinvest in the community, Gab is looking for out of the box medical ideas.  And to be honest, out of the box is exactly what is needed at this point.

The old adage of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” doesn’t apply here.  It’s in need of a serious makeover.

Let the Ideation Begin

As a small business owner, I’ve found Gab much more welcoming than I was led to believe by every article Google showed me.

My wife and I have 23 years of shared experience in healthcare and decided to put it to good use.  How?

By starting a group where real discussions could take place between patients and healthcare professionals.

Our goals were to:

  • Restore failing trust in the industry among patients
  • Reduce disenfranchisement among fired medical workers

In less than 4 months it’s grown to 56 members with decades of compassionate care between them.  I’ve been able to interview a retired RN/entrepreneur from Australia and heard the stories of many more.

One thing I’ve been impressed with is the amazing ideas being generated on ways to improve health outcomes and support patient choice.  If only there was a way to make these a reality.  Hmm…

Backing It All Up

Do you remember me saying how excited I am for this new development with Gab?  It stems from multiple places.

  1. Members of our Gab group are hashing out a pitch for Torba and his team
  2. Possibility of scaling my healthcare content writing business down the road

Prior to this major announcement, neither were on anyone’s radar.  O how times have changed!

As a first time business owner I figured partnerships and outside investing would come much later.  Turns out “much later” may be sooner than expected.

Never one to jump blindly into anything, I am nonetheless ready to make an exception just this once.  Why?  Because Gab is serious about reinvestment.

Naturally capital is the main component of their funding but it also includes:

  • Ad credit
  • Access to free speech hosting
  • Scaling and distribution assistance

Built upon solid infrastructure, their open source software boasts many other tools to aid health startups.

The newest addition is a marketplace and they also plan to improve their video hosting site.  Business transactions will eventually be handled via their own payment processor and that’s just scratching the surface.

I’m still excited but I want to be conscious of your time.  So let’s bring this ship into dock.
